Discover the Phenomenon of Transparent Mountains at Casa Junius

Casa Junius heeft het: transparente bergen. Het is een natuurfenomeen, dat je uit een bepaalde plek bij Casa Junius met de juiste lichtinval kan zien.
Casa Junius has it: transparent mountains. It is a natural phenomenon that you can see from a certain spot at Casa Junius with the right light.

No one will believe it, but from Casa Junius you can see transparent mountains. It is a natural phenomenon, that you can see from a certain place at Casa Junius with the right light and humidity.

Location of Casa Junius

Casa Junius is located in the mountains of Malaga, on the edge of a large valley surrounded by medium high mountains and hills. This mountain range is part of the Sierra de Tejeda mountain range. The whole is summarized in a huge nature reserve called: 'Parque Natural de Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama'. There are hundreds of hiking trails here, from easy to very challenging. Casa Junius is located at exactly 601 meters above sea level. From our location you have a beautiful 180 degree view over the valley and in the distance you look at the high mountains of the Sierras de Tejeda.

Transparent mountains. What exactly can be seen?

From the terrace of the apartment La Oliva you look to the east and you see 2 pointed mountains next to each other. Because of the distance, the weather is often a little bit hazy when the sun rises in the morning. The dawn is beautiful. The mountain tops are illuminated first, while the valley is still dark. Sometimes there is a dew hanging over the hills, which radiates a mystical atmosphere. With 2 of the many mountains it now seems as if one mountain is in front of the other, but the other can also be in front of the one. You actually see 2 transparent mountains.

The mountains of the Sierras de Tejeda. In the foreground the town of Caleta de Velez with a fishing port and of course lovely beaches.

An optical illusion...

It took me a while to figure out what exactly was going on. Because 2 transparent mountains are of course not possible. But before I describe the solution to the riddle, I ask the readers to send me their solution. A short email to: chkrijnen@gmail.com

If you know, we will honor your solution with a 10% discount on a booking at Casa Junius or a bottle of olive oil for our friends in the area.
