An unforgettable sunset during a catamaran trip in the Mediterranean Sea

Introduction

Last week we celebrated a family week in Casa Junius. All children, 4 grandchildren and ex-husband of Ellen came over from the Netherlands for a week in the sun. Some stayed a bit longer in our resort, others added a holiday with a camper to it. In total there were 11 guests + Ellen and me + 2 dogs and 3 cats. Well, what a party. Ellen and I slept in Sedella for a few days, because Casa Junius did not have room for that many.

Starting Point

Steven, Ellen's ex-husband, had just celebrated his birthday in the Netherlands and as a gift we had booked a sunset catamaran cruise in the Mediterranean from the port of Caleta. The port is about a 25 minute drive from Casa Junius. Nobody had done anything at sea before, so we thought it would be a nice birthday present for everyone.

Setting Sail

Ellen had made the reservation for a sailing trip in the evening at a catamaran tour agency in the port of Caleta. That afternoon we had an extensive lunch on the beach. In Spain, lunch is similar to a corpulent dinner in the Netherlands in the evening, so in the evening you are definitely not hungry anymore. In the evening everyone was looking forward to the boat trip. At half past seven we embarked. The boat was a large catamaran, there was a soft evening breeze and the sun was still shining in the sky. Ideal conditions for a pleasant evening.

The port of Caleta has a marina and a large fishing port with small and medium sized fishing boats. Every day there is professional fishing and there is a fish auction. Unfortunately you can't go there to watch, but it does mean that fresh fish is sold every day. The markets, shops and restaurants benefit from this and you can really get all kinds of fish.

Swimming in the sea

Once out of the harbor on open water, the captain sailed a bit out to sea. A few hundred meters out to sea he stopped the catamaran and threw out 2 buoys. Time for a dip to cool off in the lovely light blue warm (27 degrees Celsius / about 80 degrees F) water of the Mediterranean Sea with the mountains of the Axarquia in the background. This was certainly another moment to remember. On board were also other groups of people and many took advantage of the opportunity to swim.

Unforgettable moments: sunset during a catamaran trip

As I mentioned, swimming in the open sea was already a special moment. Once back on board we were offered a drink. What peace, what a lovely evening temperature, what a beautiful view of Torre del Mar and Caleta and the entire coast line with the mountains. Well, that is something different than Zandvoort with tens of thousands of other bathers on the beach. The bow of the catamaran was turned to the west and we slowly sailed along the coast. It was now 8:30 pm and the sun was descending towards the mountains. In fifteen minutes it would set with a deep red glow. Yes, this was another moment of the unforgettable sunset during a catamaran trip in the Mediterranean Sea. A breathtaking sunset from the sea is indeed something special. Darkness slowly came and along the coast you could see the lights of the boulevard of Torre del Mar come on. The lights in the buildings were also turned on. That view of the coast also made a very special spectacle from the water, something you don't often see. The boat slowly headed back along the coast to Caleta harbour.

Looking back

Think about the peace and serenity you will experience during this magical boat trip. Is it romantic...? Of course, but it also depends on with whom you are, but I can recommend this 2-hour boat trip to everyone. At 21:30 we arrived back at the harbour and disembarked with a feeling of satisfaction and gratitude that we were allowed to witness such a breathtaking sunset and sea trip in the Mediterranean.

And no, this is not a promotional blog for the catamaran tour company, but I still want to share the link with you. They have several trips with different hours of sailing and it is worth it: https://catamarantours.es/ . If you want to organize something with guests, success is guaranteed.
